Articles submission for 2024 is ongoing. Kindly take note of the updated guidelines regarding the formatting of bibliographic lists
Author guidelines:
The journal welcomes submissions of original articles, literature reviews, systematic reviews, and case reports.
Recommendations for authors before article submission:
Submission of an article to "The EYE GLAZ" implies that:
- The article has not been previously published in another journal.
- The article is not under consideration by any other journal.
- All co-authors have consented to the publication of the current version of the article.
Before submitting the article for review, ensure that the file(s) contain all necessary information in both Russian and English. Ensure that sources of information cited in figures and tables are appropriately specified, and all quotations are correctly formatted. Prior to submission to the editorial office, use a checklist to verify compliance with the journal's editorial guidelines.
"The EYE GLAZ" editorial board recommends authors to use checklists and schemes developed by international healthcare organizations (EQUATOR, Enhancing the Quality and Transparency of Health Research - https://www.equator-network.org/reporting-guidelines/stard/).
For articles reflecting the results of randomized clinical trials, use the "CONSORT 2010 checklist of information to include when reporting a randomized trial".
For articles reflecting the results of nonexperimental studies, refer to "The Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) Statement: guidelines for reporting observational studies" available at https://www.equator-network.org/reporting-guidelines/strobe/
For systematic reviews, follow "PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses)" available at https://www.equator-network.org/?post_type=eq_guidelines&eq_guidelines_study_design=systematic-reviews-and-meta-analyses&eq_guidelines_
When preparing clinical case descriptions, adhere to "The CARE Guidelines: Consensus-based Clinical Case Reporting Guideline Development" at https://www.equator-network.org/reporting-guidelines/care/.
For articles reflecting qualitative research results, adhere to the "SRQR (Standards for reporting qualitative research)" available at https://www.equator-network.org/reporting-guidelines/srqr/.
For articles reflecting prognostic study results, consult STARD 2015: An Updated List of Essential Items for Reporting Diagnostic Accuracy Studies at https://www.equator-network.org/reporting-guidelines/stard/.
To submit an article to the editorial office, please use the author's personal account on the platform https://www.theeyeglaz.com/.
General structure of the article:
- Title page
- Main content
- Author's contributions
- Bibliographic references
- Author information
General formatting requirements:
Page: A4 format, with 2.5 cm margins on all sides.
Font: Times New Roman, size 14, 1.5 line spacing.
Paragraph: first line indentation of 0.5 cm, justified alignment.
Title page:
The title page should include the following mandatory sections in the specified order:
- Article title
- Author's name(s)
- Author's affiliation
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Declaration of conflicts of interest
- Acknowledgments (This section is recommended but not mandatory; it should include individuals who assisted in the article's work and sources of funding)
Once you've composed the title page in Russian, please provide the translations of all sections into English, maintaining the same order.
Formatting requirements for sections on the title page:
Article Title
The article's title in Russian should accurately represent the content of the article. The English title should adhere to grammatical correctness in the English language and simultaneously convey the precise meaning of the Russian title.
Author's Name(s)
Authors are individuals identified by the scientific group as primary contributors to the presented research, willing to assume responsibility for their work. In addition to being responsible for their own part of the work, the author should also indicate how each co-author is responsible for other aspects of the work.
"The EYE GLAZ" journal recognizes the following criteria for authorship:
- Substantial contribution to research conception, design, data collection, or analysis and interpretation.
- Involvement in article preparation or critical revision, contributing significant intellectual content.
- Final approval of the article version for publication.
Individuals not contributing as authors should not be listed as authors. Non-author contributors should be acknowledged separately in the "Acknowledgments" section.
In Russian, the title page should display author initials before the surname, while in the author information and bibliographic lists, initials should come after the surname.
In English, the format "First Name, Middle Initial, Last Name" (e.g., Ivan I. Ivanov) should be used to indicate authors. English surnames must correspond to the foreign passport or as previously specified in published articles. In cases where the author lacks a foreign passport or publications, the BSI transliteration standard should be employed for surname and first name transliteration.
Example of author names on the title page in Russian and English:
Мягков Александр В., Поскребышева Жанна Н.*, Жабина Ольга А., Мягков Даниил А.
The asterisk (*) signifies the author responsible for correspondence with the editorial team.
Alexander V. Myagkov, Zhanna N. Poskrebysheva*, Olga A. Zhabina, Daniil A. Myagkov
Author's affiliation (affiliations):
The affiliation should encompass the following details: the complete official name of the organization, the comprehensive postal address (inclusive of the postcode, city, and country). Authors are required to specify all relevant workplaces related to the research.
In cases where the article involves authors from distinct institutions, it is essential to denote each author's affiliation with a superscript index.
However, if all authors of the article are associated with the same institution, it is unnecessary to individually specify the workplace for each author.
The official English name of the institution should be included in the information block in English.
Sample affiliation in Russian and English:
АНО «Национальный институт миопии»,
125438, Российская Федерация, Москва, ул. Михалковская, д. 63Б, стр.2
National Myopia Institute,
63B, bld. 2, Mikhalkovskaya Str., Moscow, 125438, Russian Federation
Resume/Abstract
The recommended length for a structured abstract is 250-300 words. It should comprise the following sections: Relevance, Objective, Methods, Results, and Conclusion. Avoid including newly introduced terms, abbreviations, or references in the abstract.
Keywords
Include 5-7 words relevant to the article's topic. It's preferable for the keywords to complement both the abstract and the article title.
Conflict of Interest
A conflict of interest occurs when individuals have conflicting or competing interests that can influence editorial decision-making. Conflicts of interest can exist as potential, perceived, or actual situations. Objectivity might be influenced by personal, political, financial, scientific, or religious factors.
Authors are required to disclose any real or potential conflicts of interest by providing information in the appropriate section of the article. If no conflict exists, authors should explicitly state so.
Sample text in Russian and English:
Конфликт интересов: авторы заявляют об отсутствии конфликта интересов.
Финансирование: авторы не получали финансирование при проведении исследования и написания статьи.
Conflict of interest: the authors declare that there is no conflict of interest.
Funding: the authors received no specific funding for this work.
After the title page, there is a narration of the main substantive part of the research After the title page, the structure of the main substantive section of the research paper varies based on the chosen format, such as original research, literature review, clinical case, and more.
In the journal "The EYE GLAZ," the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion) is adopted structure for publishing original research results.
Graphic elements requirements:
All graphics, including drawings, tables, graphs, diagrams, etc., accompanying the scientific publication, must be uploaded as separate files during the article submission via the author's personal account, responsible for correspondence with the editorial board on the platform https://www.theeyeglaz.com/.
Drawings should be clear, while photographs must have adequate contrast. Each illustration should be referenced within the article. Figures should be submitted as separate files in JPG or TIFF format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Electronic image files should ensure high-quality reproduction in the electronic version of the journal.
Tables should be visually appealing, labeled with a title and sequential number. The column headings must accurately correspond to their content. Each table should be referenced in the article, and the table itself should be placed within the text of the article. All explanations, including the decoding of abbreviations, should be provided in footnotes.
The quantity of figures and tables should align with the amount of information presented, following the principle of "necessary and sufficient." Information within tables should not duplicate data presented in figures or text, and vice versa.
All graphic elements should have captions.
The caption should consist of the sequential figure number and its title, aligned to the left.
The entire Russian text within figures, charts, and tables should be duplicated in English. The translation of the caption should be placed after the Russian caption.
Author's Contribution
Between the main text of the article and the reference list, a section dedicated to the authors' contribution to the creation of the scientific work is included.
Example of author's contribution in Russian and English:
Вклад авторов: авторы внесли равный вклад в эту работу.
Концепция и дизайн исследования: Аверич В.В., Абугова Т.Д.
Сбор и статистическая обработка материала: Аверич В.В.,. Асламазова А.Э
Анализ и интерпретация данных, написание текста: Аверич В.В., Абугова Т.Д.
Финальное редактирование: Аверич В.В.
Authors’ contributions: authors contributed equally to this work.
Research concept and design: Averich V.V., Abugova T.D.
Data collection and statistical processing: Averich V.V., Aslamazova A.E.
Data analysis and interpretation, text writing: Averich V.V., Abugova T.D.
Final editing: Averich V.V.
Bibliography formatting requirements:
Numbering in the bibliography should follow the order of citations in the text, not alphabetical. Citations in the text should be referenced within square brackets with corresponding numbers (e.g., [5]).
Both domestic and foreign information sources should be compiled into a unified list. The English description of an article should directly follow the Russian version without indentation or line breaks.
- References to Russian or non-English sources should indicate the language of the source in parentheses within the references section, such as (In Russ.), (In Chin.), etc.
- The bibliography must include only peer-reviewed sources: articles from scientific journals, monographs, and patents.
- Excluded sources from the bibliography are as follows: abstracts of dissertations, dissertations, textbooks, manuals, methodological guides, conference abstracts, and collections of scientific papers. These sources can be referenced as footnotes in the article.
- For references to accepted but unpublished articles, indicate "(В печати)" (In press) at the end of the reference.
In the original article, it is recommended to cite a minimum of 30 sources, while in a literature review, include at least 60 sources, with more than 80% of them being from the last 3-5 years.
Formatting references to journal articles:
The formatting style for citing journal articles adheres to the NLM (National Library of Medicine) bibliographic style, which is commonly used by various foreign medical journals. This style is also recommended for citing articles from journals indexed in the PubMed platform. For sources included in PubMed, it is advisable to use the citation recommendation provided on the PubMed website. You can find the "cite" and "copy" buttons located adjacent to each article for accurate citation details.
Example of reference formatting
O'Neil EC, Henderson M, Massaro-Giordano M, Bunya VY. Advances in dry eye disease treatment. Curr Opin Ophthalmol. 2019 May;30(3):166-178. doi: 10.1097/ICU.0000000000000569
All remaining references in the References section adhere to the NLM standard format.
A citation of an article from a Russian (Russian-language) journal should follow the same formatting guidelines as a source in a foreign language, encompassing both the original language (Russian) and its English translation.
When referencing an article from a Russian-language journal, the format follows the same guidelines as for foreign sources. The description of the Russian-language article in English (in Latin script) should use information from the English-language part of the article's metadata (authors, article title, journal title, publication details) maintaining accuracy without alteration. The final reference can be inserted into the "For citation" section of the journal if available in the original article. However, regardless of its presentation in the original article, it must be transformed into the style recommended by the journal to which the manuscript is being submitted.
In the absence of English-language metadata within the cited article, to transform the Russian-language description surnames of authors and the journal title should be transliterated into the Latin script using the BSI transliteration system (https://translit.ru/ru/bsi/). The article title should be translated into English, and the article's language should be indicated as "In Russ." However, citing Russian-language articles without English-language metadata does not significantly contribute to the article or the references list.
Important note: Initials should not be separated by periods, and all authors should be listed (without "et al."). Journal titles should be provided in abbreviated form, also without periods.
