On the participation of accommodation in the dynamics of myopia progression in children

Abstract

Accommodation disorders in a similar clinical picture have different pathogenesis, different biomechanics, different effect on refractogenesis and on progression of myopia. The authors believe that different qualitative states of accommodation have different effects on the rate of myopia progression. The highest rate of myopia progression is observed in children with accommodative disorders, characterized by high rates of accommodation lag. When choosing the optimal correction for children with myopia, an individual approach is necessary, taking into account the magnitude of the decrease in accommodative response. The effect of accommodation disorders on the rate of myopia progression in children can be reduced by prescribing of correction that affects peripheral refraction (ortho-K lenses, defocusing, multifocal contact lenses, etc.).
